VIDEOGRAPHY: TERRY MOYEMONT Apart from my 1969 16mm film production, “Stereopticon” (Special Award by Jonas Mekas, 1970 Baltimore Film Festival), my production history has been entirely in video. After six years of doing instructional video work for the Education Department at the University of Illinois and teaching in the Unit One Program of the College, I started my mature documentary work with “Running a Steam Locomotive”(1980), which I shot and co-edited with other members of Afterimage, Ltd. From 1981 I began working with the Stephanie Skura Dance Company in New York, both as a documenter and as a co-producer of two of her public performances, for which I did the shooting and editing, as well as some on-stage camera work for live projection, and worked and performed both in New York and on tours throughout the country, as well as in England and France. In 1989 I began a lengthy documentary project on the traditional village life in the mountains of Crete. During that same period I also shot and edited short “demo” pieces for Italian sculptor Salvatore Cipolla and for Dale Chihuly and his collaborator, Lino Tagliapietra. From 1991 to 1994, while still continuing both my documentary work on Crete and the making of other short artists? demos, I spent winters in Prague shooting a piece on the lives and work of the Czech glass art giants Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova. While there, I also produced shorter pieces for glass artists René Roubicek and Gizela Sabokova. From 1994-96 I was Director of Education for the Montana Public Television Association, which entailed teaching shooting and editing to people in small towns across the state, helping to produce pieces about their communities. I was also working with various public schools, teaching video techniques in and around Helena, Montana. Throughout this time, I kept up a marketing effort for “Running a Steam Locomotive”, which to date has sold over 100,000 copies. In 1997 I shot and edited a documentary on the restoration and sailing of USS Constitution, with cooperation from US Navy and the shipʼs former commander. After helping the producer with his marketing effort, I turned to co-writing a grant proposal to the Mac Arthur Foundation. At the end of that year we received the grant and spent 1998- 99 shooting and editing a piece on preventative peace keeping with U.N. forces in Macedonia. I also worked with agencies around the country to get the pieces shown and used in schools and training programs. From 1997 to 2012 continued making several short demo pieces for artists in the Seattle area, including a DVD on partners yoga. Iʼve planned or scripted all of the productions in which Iʼve been involved. I have also done the shooting in each case, and blocked out the footage into an editing decision list, choosing music and title graphics and effects. Much of my work I edited on earlier tape-to-tape systems. With The Libensky and USS Constitution pieces I did off-line edits in Hi-8 and worked with a Media 100 editor for the final. For the last few years I do all my editing in Final Cuts Pro. I have written successful grants to the Illinois and Montana Arts Councils, the Joyce Foundation, The N.E.A., and the Mac Arthur Foundation, as well as proposals to private investors.
